A sample of the hand thrown range of flower pots available. Kim Lyons Pottery also makes a range of pressed pots for florists, restaurants, and gardens. This was one of the first kilns that Kim Lyons built to complete his creations. Kim and Jeanette Lyons have owned and operated Kim Lyons Pottery for over 40 years in Lesmurdie. In 2007, they opened a fresh workshop in West Toodyay called Picnic Hill Pottery to enable the redevelopment of the thrown form of terracotta pottery in WA. Carved out of the hillside to take advantage of the views, the workshop has been designed to include a dedicated display room for finished labor and ample space in the main workshop for people to watch the process of pottery throwing. Specializing in lofty temperature firing, our terracotta pots have survived the test of time and now we plan to construct and exaggerate on that reputation. The town itself straddles the Avon River and is surrounded by picturesque hills of remnant vegetation, grazing and cropping land. Winter and Spring to early Summer are ideal times to visit the region. Kim Lyons is a Master Potter who has 40 years experience in the ceramics industry. He built his first wood and oil fired kiln when he was 17. Kim then spent numerous years at university but his passion for pottery took hold at the age of 20 where he made the decision to begin his own commercial pottery business. Kim has grown his business into being one of the largest commercial potteries in WA. Over the years he has acquired various parts and machinery of other pottery businesses that have closed. He has also opened a second workshop in Toodyay which is capable for making roof finials and hand thrown terracotta pots. Kim’s products are of a very lofty quality and it is common to find flower pots that are 30 to 40 years impaired and tranquil looking good. Flower pots can be decorated with a plain design or combed cream band, or hand painted designs with a variety of oxide colors onto a cream band. The flower pots can also be glazed in a variety of colors. Each pot is hand finished after pressing, ensuring that the pots are of the highest finished quality. Kim Lyons Pottery manufactures various products for the building industry. Kim is one of the scanty remaining manufacturers of clay building products worn in many governments and worn buildings within Australia. He also manufactures finial tiles of various forms (scrolls, dragons, plain) for bristle Tiles. Kim makes terracotta sprinkler surrounds which are best to definite surrounds as they are exempt to vehicles crushing them. Kim makes a range of specialty garden ware products for various purposes.
